Protecting Aurora’s Turtles One Nest at a Time
Aurora’s turtles deserve a future. We’re a small, volunteer-led group working under Scales Nature Park to protect nesting moms, safely excavate eggs when needed, and respond when turtles are in danger on roads and trails. With each season, we save more lives — and we won’t stop until crossing a road isn’t a life-or-death gamble for a turtle.
Our heart: Protect mamas, rescue on roads, and give hatchlings a fighting chance.
Our approach: Monitor nests, install protective measures, and excavate under permits when conditions demand it.
Our promise: We show up — day, night, and during the messy moments no one else sees.
Turtles carry ecosystems on their backs. Most of Canada’s native turtles are at risk, and it can take decades for populations to recover; prevention and local action matter.
Inside
our world
We’re neighbors, not a big organization — a handful of committed volunteers trained and supported through Scales Nature Park, focusing on conservation, education, and hands-on response across the Aurora area. Our work blends field monitoring, community help, and careful excavation and protection of nests where conditions threaten future hatchlings.
Affiliation: Operating under Scales Nature Park’s conservation mission and guidance.
Permits and protocols: Egg incubation, releases, and research happen under appropriate wildlife authorizations; we follow approved protocols.
Why this matters here: Wetland health underpins wildlife in our region, and turtles are keystone stewards of those systems.
